Our challenge for SOS Children’s Villages was to modernise this 70-year-old brand in a manner that could be implemented consistently across their 130+ countries of operation, adaptable to local communications needs and contexts. We first developed their brand positioning, then created a comprehensive set of brand visual guidelines and a full suite of templates.

Our challenge for SOS Children’s Villages was to modernize their 70-year-old brand in a manner that could be implemented consistently across their 130+ countries of operation, adaptable to local communications needs and contexts. We first developed their brand positioning, then created a comprehensive set of brand visual guidelines and a full suite of templates.
We first conducted extensive internal and external market research, from which we crafted the brand’s updated strategic positioning – this is brought to life in the above brand repositioning video. We then collaborated with our partners, Saffron Consultants, for the ideation of a matching visual concept which we further developed into a full set of design rules.
The comprehensive Brand Visual Guidelines manual provides over 130 pages of in-depth advice on how to use each graphic element as well as tips for how to create new ones. This equips national offices with tools to independently adapt to their vastly different communications contexts, reducing dependence on the global communications team.
The graphic elements introduced in the guidelines can be combined in an infinite number of ways and adapted to various platforms, forming a flexible toolkit for worldwide use.
To support the rollout of the updated brand visual style, we created a wide range of ready-to-use design templates. These include business cards, various publications and publication covers, envelopes, posters, presentations, social media posts and Word documents.
SOS Children’s Villages is the world’s largest non-governmental organization focused on supporting children and young people without parental care, or at risk of losing it. With locations in over 130 countries, this organization fundraises €1Bn annually through private donations and governmental subsidies.
